A Strong Immune System is Critical

Just as we seem to be reaching some sort of end point with the last global infection we are being bombarded with the suggestion that we are about to face something else.

The truth of the matter is that is always true – that’s the way nature works!

And because it’s the way nature works we all have built-in ways to deal with much of what comes along. Highest on the list is our own natural immunity.

So here are 5 recommendations to build up your natural immunity.

  1.  Exercise regularly
Exercise has many benefits: it clearly builds our physical strength and stamina, it improves circulation, it acts as a very effective de-stressor, and it actually builds our immunity substantially.

  2. Get sufficient sleep
During sleep our bodies have a chance to detoxify effectively, many infection-fighting cells and molecules are produced during sleep, and stress decreases when we sleep enough. Too little sleep have proven to be a predisposing factor for succumbing to viral infection.

  3. Do what you can to minimize (or deal effectively with) stress
I think it’s probably fair to say that every person on the planet is somewhat stressed at present! A stress response to a short-term problem is a good thing, but when the stress, and therefore the stress response in the body, becomes chronic, we are on the road to a whole host of health problems, not least of which is greater risk of infection or illness due to a weakened immunity. We need to find things that are personally helpful, but here are a few suggestions to explore: breathing exercises, meditation techniques, prayer or even suitable exercise (such as dance and yoga).

  4. Keep properly hydrated
Water is a major part of what we are, and as such plays a vital role in our good health.
As far as immunity goes, the circulatory system, and the lymphatic systems are especially important, as they transport the cells and molecules involved in our defences wherever they need to be. When we are dehydrated, for example, the lymphatic flow becomes sluggish and our immunity suffers in consequence. Just as a precaution: tea and coffee and many of our favourite beverages are not in fact great for hydration. In fact, many of them are somewhat diuretic and actually dehydrate our systems. Water is therefore essential, over and above the other beverages. Here are some signs that you might be dehydrated: a dry mouth, feeling thirsty, headaches, infrequent urination and dark coloured, strong-smelling urine.

  5. Eat a healthy diet
So what does that actually mean to you? When you stop and think about it, very few of us deliberately choose to eat a terrible diet, so presumably we believe we are doing the right thing for our own bodies (and, when we are feeding others, such as our children, for them too). I can mention the usual suspects: lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, good protein and good fats. And even then we might come up with wildly different ideas of how that should look!
So please do take a look at your diet and make sure it is a healthy one, but also please consider taking a look at good, proven whole food supplements to ensure that any nutritional gaps that you might have are well and truly filled. It can make the world of a difference.
