Post Viral Fatigue

There are lots of recommendations for dealing with post-viral fatigue, so I have distilled the most important 6 for you.

  1. Make sure you get enough sleep.
Fatigue is a way of enforcing the rest that your body needs to heal! And sleep strengthens your immune system.

2. Keep active, but don’t overdo it!
You might have to move slowly and gently, and rest frequently. But it’s important to do something every day. Keep it to a small number of activities (both physical and mental) each day, until you can build up to a little more and eventually a return to normal.

3. Avoid alcohol, but drink plenty of fluids.
Alcohol is not a good idea because it is known to disturb sleep, it is energy-depleting, and it is generally inflammatory.
On the other hand, drink lots of water, fruit and vegetable juices, green tea and the like.

4. Manage stress as best you can.
Stress is a serious nutrient thief, so in addition to doing your best to mitigate the stress-inducing things in your life, make sure that your nutrient stock is up to the task. Highly recommended is Vitamin B complex, Vitamin D, Vitamin C and zinc. However, what I would recommend especially when your body is under high stress is ProVitality. I know a number of people who say things like “It’s given me my life back”.

5. Keep your gut microbiome healthy.
The best way to keep the gut micro-organisms healthy and doing their vitally important work is to feed them well – and conversely, not stress them or, worse still, poison them. What they love most of all is a variety of vegetables, herbs and fruits. The recommendation is to aim for 40 or more different types of this food group each week! That’s a pretty tall order, but ProVitality can even help with that.

6. Bring inflammation under control.
In the initial stages of an infection inflammation is an essential part of the immune response. However, when it persists, and becomes chronic, it is very bad for ongoing healing. Vitally important anti-inflammatory nutrients are essential to manage this problem: Omega 3 fatty acids are powerful dietary anti-inflammatory compounds, essential for ongoing health and well-being. Others are Vitamin D, curcumin, quercetin, Vitamin C and ginger.
