Your Pesky Prostate
The prostate gland is one of those organs that you are barely aware of – until it gives trouble!
This usually happens in the second half of life, although earlier trouble is definitely also possible.
These problems can vary from prostatitis (and inflamed prostate), benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) (an enlarged prostate) and eventually prostate cancer.
As with most health issues, prevention is hands down the best plan of action. So here are some suggestions that are really important to make part of your life – before you need to deal with the problems.
- Exercise and regulate your body mass
Moderate to vigorous exercise is linked to a reduced risk of BPH and prostatitis. And for good measure it’s good for your heart and can prevent ED!Overweight and obesity are also really bad for your health in general but prostate health in particular. Overweight men, with a beer belly, are very prone to prostatitis, and they are at a grater risk of prostate cancer than men of normal weight.
- Manage your stress
Stress can cause a tightening of the pelvic muscles which predisposes to prostatitis. But it also impairs your immune response which means that your body’s ability to fight off any disease, including prostate disease is compromised.
You might have picked up that this is a recurring theme, and t is, because it is so important for general health. It’s critical that you find ways that suit you to manage your stress. Again, just a few examples are running or jogging, doing yoga, meditating, deep breathing. And please remember that social connections are essential. Build and maintain a groups of friends whose company you enjoy. - Eat a prostate friendly diet
This is also a bit like deja vu. A prostate friendly diet is much like a health friendly diet!
This means lots of fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds, fatty fish such as salmon and mackerel. And what you don’t eat is also important: let go of processed and refined foods, foods high in sugar, and fried foods! - Take supplements that support prostate health.
I strongly believe that this is necessary because we can no longer be sure that we are getting all the nutrients we need from our diets.
Also, sometimes food that we know is very important is simply unpalatable to us.Here are some nutrients that are particularly important for your prostate:
Omega 3 oils
Antioxidants, especially lycopene
Zinc
Selenium
Vitamin EYou can take a look at my strong recommendation of a daily supplement that can begin to cover all the bases for you here: https://neolifeafrica.com/positiveoptions/shop/product/2595
